'Fish and Lipstick' is a collaborative project made by myself and a group of photography, fashion communication and promotion and film students at NUA. The project brief was to create fashion based content (video and/or photography) in square format to be used on Instagram. For this project I worked as the production designer, makeup artist and assisted with the styling of the model.
The full project can be found here: @fish_and_lipstick
The theme of our project was social realism focusing on the impact of social media and the way in which we present ourselves on it. Therefore my aim was to create a run-down environment to contrast a glamorous looking model.
Moodboards

My aim was to use neutral and/or dark colours for the environment and use a bright colour to be associated with the subject, for this we used a bright red.
Pre-Planning
A few days prior to the shoot I did a test for how I was going to layout the set-up. Our idea was to have the model being extremely still while small details within the frame. I wanted to create a believable environment for the subject but also feature movement, but I did not want to create the impression that certain props were in the frame purely because they moved rather than holding any real value to the set.

On the day of the shoot we chose to move around the furniture which allowed for a far more dynamic set-up and a more interesting placement of the props. In the pre-planning photos above, I feel that there is too much going on in one space whereas in the final version (available on the Instagram page) the environment is far more interesting and believable.
